In its annual review, Motorsport News (MN) has recognised the success of our Rotax and KF squads in 2009 by naming Strawberry Racing and Tony Kart Junior as its Team of the Year.

The weekly newspaper dedicated to all forms of motor racing said “Everywhere you looked this season, there seemed to be a Tony Kart fresh out of Sheffield running at the front.”

The Karting page editor, Dan McCalla paid tribute to the triumphs claimed by Ben Cooper (WSK KF2), Luke Varley (Kart Masters, Euro Max and World Finals Senior Rotax champion), Josh Webster (Junior Rotax European champion) and Carlos Sainz (KF3 Monaco Cup victor) and the WSK Euro Cup in both KF2 and KF3.

The contribution of Chris Lock (KF2) and Joseph Reilly (Senior Rotax) was also highlighted with McCalla writing “But it wasn’t all about the trophies. [Reilly and Lock] provided the team with strength in depth, and meant it was competitive everywhere.”

In its analysis of last season’s best British drivers, MN put Ben, Luke and new signing George Russell in its top ten.

Strawberry team manager Warwick Ringham comments, “I am delighted that we have been recognised by ‘the Voice of British Motorsport’. This is testimony to all the hard work that everyone put in – the drivers, mechanics and all the other support staff.”

He adds “However, we won’t sit on our laurels. We have set a benchmark now and want to achieve even greater success. It won’t be easy as we faced strong opposition at each race and our competitors will again give us a stern challenge throughout 2010. We have another exciting driver line-up and each and every one of us is looking forward to the season openers at home and abroad.”

On the back of his success with the Tony Kart Junior team, Ben Cooper has earned a berth with the works Kosmic Racing Department. His departure to the KF1 ranks has facilitated Luke Varley to join the Junior team for his first crack at KF2 and the WSK crown.
