Need for Speedworld
Penultimate round of the Euro Max Challenge hits Austria this weekend

13th July 2010

Affolter

This weekend (17/18 July) sees the Strawberry team resuming its bid to retain the two Euro Max crowns it won in 2009 with Josh Webster (Junior) and Luke Varley (Senior), as the championship enters its most critical phase.

Fawcett en Van de Brand

Speedworld, near Vienna hosts the 3rd and penultimate round of the series, and all is still very much to play for.

In the senior class, Tom Fawcett lies just 3 points off the top of the leaderboard, with team-mate Mats van den Brand close behind in 3rd place overall. Winter Cup winner James Greenway is currently 5th whilst Barrie Pullinger, the youngest member of the senior squad, is in a highly creditable 10th place.

Junior star Jack Barlow is currently 3rd and after dominating the 5th and 6th rounds of the Formula Kart Stars series, his confidence is very strong. Joel Affolter, in his first season with the team, is just a whisker behind and will be eager to return to the podium after finishing 2nd in the opening at Salbris.

Looking ahead to the event, Team Manager Warwick Ringham said “We’ve not raced here before, although I think Tom and Mats have, so I’m not entirely sure what’s going to happen. We’ll have to work very hard during testing to quickly find the right set-up whilst also trying to factor in variables, such as changing weather conditions. However, I’m confident the Tony Kart EVR chassis will respond well whatever happens overhead.

I think the senior drivers will all work hard and each has a very good chance of making it onto the podium on Sunday.”

Turning his attention to his two junior representatives, Warwick observed, “JB (Jack Barlow) is very level-headed, calm and confident. Since he joined us he’s had four straight podiums, including his back-to-back FKS victories - but you always see the same expression. He’s very cool. Joel will be fast and I’m sure will respond positively to having Jack alongside him now.”

Pullinger

He added, “All six of them think they can win, so we’ll just have to see as the weekend progresses. It’ll be very interesting.”

The event gets underway on Wednesday (14 July 2010) with free practice. Timed qualifying will take place on Friday before the heats on Saturday and Sunday’s all important finals.
